Authorizations For Tests & Treatments

When your doctor prescribes certain tests or treatments for you, THIPA may need to “authorize” it or else they will not pay for any part of the test or treatment.

Your doctor will know when to request a referral for authorization. In most cases, THIPA reviews authorizations within 48 hours. As soon as we get it we’ll send it to your doctor’s office and also mail your authorization to you.

If THIPA receives a denial for a requested test or treatment by your health plan, you’ll receive a phone call from THIPA along with a letter explaining how you can appeal. Questions? Call Member Services Toll Free at 866-568-4472.
