Have you had your shingles vaccination?

A one-time shingles vaccination called Zostavax is recommended for everyone age 60 and older—even if you’ve already had shingles. Your doctor needs to prescribe Zostavax for you to pick up at your pharmacy. It’s possible to have the vaccination administered at many retail drug stores, or you can bring it back to your doctor’s office.

The vaccine is covered by Medicare as a preventive benefit, but unlike other vaccines that are covered through Part B, the shingles vaccination is covered by Part D. Check with your Medicare Advantage HMO plan to find out your cost for Zostavax. Copayments can vary dramatically from as low as $30 up to $95. Without any insurance, the vaccination costs about $200.
