New Doctors Here to Serve You

Meet David Stern, M.D.

Dr. David Stern has been a primary care physician in the South Bay for 28 years. His philosophy? Combine new, modern day medicine with the personal service of an old- fashioned medical practice.

“We’re a small practice with three staff members,” says Dr. Stern. “But it allows us to have a close relationship with our patients.”

Senior patients often come to see Dr. Stern with a common health problem: diabetes.

“The great thing about treating diabetes now is that there are so many newer medications that address the diabetic process in ways we didn’t know existed 20 years ago,” explains Dr. Stern. “The most important thing is to start taking these new medications early, when your numbers are only a little bit off so we can get them as close to normal as possible.”

Diet and exercise are also important for healthy blood sugar and a healthy body.

“Diet is important, but exercise is the most important thing any senior can do,” says Dr. Stern. “Exercise addresses more aspects of health than anything else. It addresses weight gain, blood pressure, cholesterol and heart health risks. Plus, it improves mental well-being.”

Dr. Stern recommends exercise for everyone, especially for seniors who haven’t been very active.

“If you’ve been sedentary for a long time just walking at first can be uncomfortable,” says Dr. Stern. “The idea is to exercise at a level just below what’s uncomfortable and sustain it for at least a half an hour a day. Once your tolerance improves you can increase your exercise activities. I recommend exercise you look forward to doing. This will make it easier to exercise on days when you feel lazy.”

Dr. Stern’s office is located at 1218 Crenshaw Boulevard in Torrance. To make an appointment or ask the doctor a question, call 310-328-1181.
